The Old Village of Ventabren

In the village, you will be charmed by narrow cobbled streets (les calades). Around every other corner, you will find uniquely crafted water fountains and quaint cafes.
Nestled in another remote corner you can view an original wash house and throughout the village you’ll notice traditional Provençal stone house architecture. The main street, the Grande Rue, climbs steeply. At the apex, you will find the charming the Place de l’Eglise.

The Church, built in the 17th century, is dedicated to the Mother of God and Saint Denis, Holy venerated in all the countries of vineyards


From the foot of the ruins of Château of Queen Jeanne, there is and unobstructed view of the Etang de Berre, the town of Martigues and the Alpilles Hills.

In 1794 during the french revolution, "le comité de salut public de Marseille" requested the destruction of the Castle



The Windmill of Ventabren brings the water from the Canal de Marseille to the Village.
It has been restored in 1967 at the image of Moulin de Daudet


The Roquefavour aqueduct is the largest stone aqueduct in the world. This veritable masterpiece, 375 metres long and 84 metres high, with 3 tiers of arches, crosses the Arc Valley at Ventabren. It was designed and built under the direction of the engineer De Montricher, being inaugurated on 19 December 1847. It supplied the city of Marseille with water and saved it from cholera and the plague.
